Rule of law: Court orders action against policemen

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday directed the CCPO to take departmental action against an assistant sub-inspector and stop the salary of the Chuhng station house officer. The policemen are accused of not producing a child before the court despite the issuance of several notices. The order was passed on a petition by a woman seeking the recovery of her six-month-old child from his father. She said her husband had thrown her out of the house and had kept the child. She said she had tried several means to get child back but her husband had refused to budge. She approached the Chuhng police but the station house officer refused to register a case. She requested the court to direct the police to recover the child from her husband. The judge had directed the SHO and ASI Riaz (the process server) to produce the child in court but they had failed to comply. The judge also directed the CCPO to make sure the child was produced in court on October 3.
