ISLAMABAD: After a wait of over five months, the government has finally appointed heads at three federal universities. President Mamnoon Hussain, on the advice of the prime minister, on Thursday approved the appointments of vice-chancellors (VC) at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), and a rector for the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Dr Shahid Siddiqui will head the AIOU, while Prof Javed Ashraf has been appointed QAU VC. Dr Masoom Yasinzai will continue his work as IIUI rector. The summary was sent to PM on September 13, who forwarded it to the presidency. President Hussain interviewed the nine proposed candidates on September 24. The three major universities in the capital had been operating without permanent heads after the posts fell vacant some months ago.
