Caught at last: Police arrest 19-year-old Adee’s alleged killer

Gulshan-e-Iqbal police arrested the accused, Saeed Khan, from University Road near Safari Park with a pistol

KARACHI:

Investigations police claim to have arrested a suspect responsible for the murder of 19-year-old Adee, who was killed at pointblank range during a robbery near Safari Park.

The accused is an employee of a private shopping centre and is a resident of Juma Goth. Police are conducting raids to arrest his accomplice.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal police arrested the accused, identified as Saeed Khan, son of Omar Khan Kakakhel, from University Road near Safari Park, and seized a pistol and four bullets from his possession. An FIR No. 478/2014 was registered against him, on charges of weapons' possession and robbery, at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.

According to the police, the accused hails from Quetta. Investigations officer Abdul Rehman Mirani said that the accused admitted to have committed the murder of Adee Atif, son of Talha Sadiq, on September 8. The accused confessed that he, along with his accomplice, Sherbaz Khan, committed the murder during a robbery bid near Safari Park.

Adee, 19, was a first-year student of the statistics department at the University of Karachi and had recently learnt how to drive. He was a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 2. The victim's father is a practitioner of herbal medicine, and his clinic is located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 3. He used to go his father's clinic every night to pick him up.

On the day of the incident, at around 10:45pm, Adee and his mother were going to pick up his father from the clinic. As soon as their car came onto University Road, the two accused intercepted the vehicle, demanding him to stop the car. Adee, on the other hand, tried to dodge the assailants and drove even faster.

The assailants gave chase and intercepted him again at Metro flyover, where they brought their motorcycle in front of the car to force him to stop. Adee was adamant to not give in and struck their motorcycle which became stuck under the vehicle, forcing him to stop. The assailants, at this point, opened fire at him, injuring him seriously. The bullet of the 30-bore pistol entered through the right side and exited the body through the left, piercing his heart. They quickly pulled out their motorcycle from under the car and fled the scene.

"I did not mean to do it. It just happened in the heat of the moment," claimed the accused, Saeed. "It was all so sudden and I am really saddened by what happened."

Adee was rushed to the nearest hospital where he breathed his last a few minutes later. The police had found an empty shell of a 30-calibre pistol from the site. Another FIR No. 426/2014, under Sections 34 and 302, was registered at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station on behalf of Adee's father.

The police have sent the empty shell found from the site and the pistol seized from Saeed Khan for ballistics matching to the forensic laboratory. They are also conducting raids to arrest the other accused who is still at large. The officials claim that the arrested accused was involved in over 30 cases of street crimes.
