Sanitation equipment: Civic agency approves funds for buying new machinery

Chairman CDA directs expedition of procurement process

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday approved funds for the procurement of new machinery for sanitary services.


Chairing a meeting at the civic agency’s headquarters, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal approved funds for the procurement of four mechanical sweepers, two compactors and two skip-lifters for carrying out garbage collection in line with international standards, informed a press release.

At the meeting, which was also attended by CDA Member Administration and Estate Amir Ali Ahmed and Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi, it was also decided to upgrade the existing machinery of the sanitation directorate.

In this connection, 16 water tankers would be reconditioned and converted into five skip lifters and 11 garbage compactors.

Funds were also allocated for necessary repair and maintenance of garbage trolleys, large garbage containers and other machinery being used by for carrying out the cleanliness work.

The CDA chairman directed the member environment to ensure the early completion of the repair work and expedite the procurement process for the new machinery.

He said that induction of the state-of-the art machinery and upgradation of the sanitation system will help carry out sanitary services swiftly and meticulously.

“The city will have the facility to collect and dispose of solid waste in a scientific manner,” he said.


Afzal also directed the officials to depute additional sanitation staff at different markets, business centres and public places to ensure cleanliness.

Encroachments to be removed in two months 

CDA’s directorate of enforcement will remove encroachments from all markets of the capital within two months.

CDA Enforcement Deputy Director General Aasia Gul said the authority has launched a strict operation against encroachers on the directions of CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal.

She said following the direction of the Islamabad High Court to remove katchi abadis, CDA has already removed three such dwellings from the city and the authority will also launch an operation against the katchi abadi of Sector H-11.

Gul said the markets of sectors F-11 and F-10 have been cleared of encroachments, adding that the authority is also conducting an operation against the non-conforming and commercial use of residential areas.

Meanwhile, the enforcement directorate retrieved two kanals from illegal occupants in Jaba Teli village.

Gul informed that an illegally constructed boundary wall and two rooms on state land were demolished in the village.

Enforcement teams also carried out an operation in Melody Market and removed encroachments from corridors and footpaths which were causing inconvenience to the public.
