HYDERABAD: Yet again, lawyers boycotted court proceedings in several districts of Sindh on Wednesday. This time they were protesting the kidnapping of the son of Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) Hyderabad president Advocate Nisar Durrani.

Zulfiqar Durrani, 18, was with his friends in Hyderabad Defence when his car was intercepted by a Toyota Corolla near the residence of provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon.

"There were four kidnappers in the car, three of whom came out, surrounded our car and asked for Zulfiqar," Saad Abro, one of Zulfiqar's companions, told the police in his statement. "When we told him that there was no one with that name among us, one of them took out a photograph and identified Zulfiqar." Nisar appeared unable to explain the reason for his son's abduction, saying that he had no enmity with anyone.

The SCBHA convened a general body meeting at the SHC Hyderabad bar room on Wednesday. Lawyers at the meeting condemned the incident and accused the police of failing to curb kidnappings.

"We have never seen such an incident in a posh area, where the culprits come with a photo in their hand and kidnap an innocent boy," said SHCBA general secretary Advocate Ayaz Tunio.

The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry also condemned the kidnapping and demanded that the government ensure the safe recovery of the boy immediately.

SHO Razak Commando said that the Cantt police had registered an FIR against four unidentified suspects on Nisar's complaint, but no suspects had been arrested in connection with the case.

Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has asked DIG Dr Sanaullah Abbasi to submit a report about the kidnapping and ensure Zulfiqar's safe and early recovery.
