Development plans: Donors, govt officials to meet at consultative session

The SCCs fall under the provincial government’s Strategic Development Partnership Framework (SDPF).

PESHAWAR:

A consultative session to coordinate aid with the provincial government’s reform agenda will be held on Wednesday (today) in Islamabad.

According to Khush Nasiba, a Civil Secretariat official, the consultative session of sectoral coordination committees (SCC) has been arranged by the Planning and Development department. The SCCs fall under the provincial government’s Strategic Development Partnership Framework (SDPF).

Nasiba said the co-chairs of each SCC will update senior government officials on the activities they undertook from April to September. “They will provide a list of achievements in their respective sector and suggest ways to capitalize on these achievements,” she added.

The co-chair will also list challenges they faced as well as ways to mitigate them in the future. Moreover, the activities the SCCs plan to conduct in the next three months will also be outlined at the meeting.

“The heads of various government departments, senior officials and representatives of major donor agencies will be in attendance,” added Nasiba.

The SDFP was launched by the provincial government last year to address the basic needs of the people. Its goals include a 500% increase in energy generation, the creation of 200,000 new jobs and a reduction in poverty by one-fourth by 2018.

Various SCCs were formed under the framework to set targets and develop roadmaps for achieving them. These committees include government officials as well as representatives of donors and meet every few months to discuss progress and make recommendations.
