Police arrest armed woman at LHC

Abida had come to court for a hearing of a case related to her niece's love marriage

LAHORE:
Police on Monday arrested a woman who tried to enter Lahore High Court premises with a 30-bore pistol, Express News reported.

The gun along with it's magazine were seized during checking at the main gate of the high court. Security officers then handed her over to the Anarkali police.

The woman, identified as Abida, had come to the court with her husband for a hearing of a case related to her niece's love marriage.

She is reportedly a resident of Shad Bagh and had a license for the weapon.

In order to avoid any untoward situation, it is prohibited to carry a weapon inside the LHC's premises. Abida has reportedly said that she did not know that it was against the law to bring a gun to the court.

On May 27, a 25-year-old woman was stoned to death by her father and two brothers in an apparent ‘honour killing’ outside the LHC after she married a man of her choice. According to police, she was initially fired upon but she survived the firing after which nearly a dozen men, including her father, brothers and former fiancée, pelted her with bricks and stones until she died on the spot.
