Kashmir leaders welcome Nawaz’s UN speech

Leader of the Opposition in AJK Assembly says it would give a new impetus to the Kashmiris’ liberation struggle

ISLAMABAD:

A number of prominent Kashmiri leaders on both sides of Line of Control on Saturday warmly welcomed Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s speech before the UN General Assembly.

The leaders, including those of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), appreciated the Prime Minister Nawaz for drawing world attention towards the lingering issue of Kashmir.

Commenting on the speech, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed said Premier Nawaz strongly pleaded the case of Kashmiris by highlighting the issue in its true perspective.

Leader of the Opposition in AJK Legislative Assembly Raja Farooq Haider Khan hailed the address and said it would give a new impetus to the Kashmiris’ liberation struggle.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir said the prime minister presented the true sentiments of the Kashmiri people at the UN.

Deputy parliamentary leader in AJK Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Tariq Farooq said Nawaz reminded world leaders about UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue, which had not been implemented.

Senior APHC leader Professor Abdul Ghani Butt said that the administration of Indian Kashmir had failed to help the flood-affected people of the region.

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik, in a statement, said the massive destruction due to floods could not be compensated without the aid by the international institutions and non-governmental organisations.
