Food Minister Bilal Yasin said on Friday that the government had been striving to provide the public with basic necessities at fair prices.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Punjab Price Control Committee at civil secretariat.  Agriculture Minister Farrukh Javed and several district officials were present on the occasion. They briefed the ministers regarding the provision of fruits, vegetables and pulses and their prices in the post-flood situation. Officials informed the meeting that the government had adopted an effective strategy to ensure  sustained supply of basic necessities to the public in the recent floods that had damaged crops in several districts. Participants in the meeting were told that their supply and price were being monitored regularly across the province.

Javed instructed officials to ensure continuous supply of basic necessities to the public. He directed them to use all resources at their disposal to ensure that no shortage of essentials was witnessed in the Punjab.  Javed instructed them to show zero tolerance to those found guilty of fleecing the public. He directed them to register cases against them and send them to prison. Earlier, Yasin had watched an auction at Sabzi Mandi.  He said the government was trying to provide the public with basic necessities at affordable prices.
