Raising a voice: JUI-F holds demonstrations against curriculum revision

Demands the arrest of party leader’s murderers.

SWABI/DI KHAN:

Activists of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) held protest rallies in Tank and Swabi on Friday against changes in school curriculum, the murder of party leader Maulana Sher Alam Farooqi, and sit-ins of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek.

Hundreds of JUI-F workers participated in a rally in Tank which started from Jamia Masjid Spin and ended at Traffic Chowk, the busy road which connects DI Khan and Wana, South Waziristan. They kept the road blocked for about two hours, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Addressing the gathering, Maulana Zakari said the PTI government is secretly attempting to remove religious content from academic curriculum which is against the tradition and culture of the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The protesters also demanded the government arrest the culprits involved in the killing of Maulana Sher Alam in Hangu.

Swabi

Activists of JUI-F Swabi chapter also demonstrated on Friday at Swabi Chowk.

The party’s district chief, Maulana Attaul Haq Darvesh, while addressing the protesters said the provincial government has handed over the education department to international NGOs just like it has handed over several other departments. “Now the government is changing the academic curriculum in the province and conspiring to remove religious material from it.”

Darvesh asked Jamaat-e-Islami to avoid its dual policy and accused it of having an equal share in PTI government’s attempts to change the curriculum.

He further said that target killing is prevalent in the province and innocent people were being killed as result. Darvesh mentioned the provincial government, instead of restoring peace in the province, was attending the sit-ins in Islamabad.

The JUI-F activists appealed to K-P senior minister Shahram Khan Tarakai and K-P Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who belong to Swabi, to play their role against change in curriculum.
