MULTAN:
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has suspended the SHO of Multan for failing to arrest a suspect accused of allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl, Express News reported.

The chief minister visited the victim's house in Multan, where he expressed his sympathies in regard to the situation.

The girl had been protesting with her family, including her mother, in front of the Multan Press Club. She said she was raped by an 18-year-old son of a land lord on September 18, and had registered an FIR against him but the police did not take any action.

During their protest, the victim and her mother had set themselves on fire, after which they were saved by journalists and civil society activists.

They chanted slogans against police and called on the government to take notice of the injustice.
