Chinese companies keen to invest in country

LED technology is being utilised in China for lighting streets, parks and other public and private buildings.

GUANGZHOU/ISLAMABAD: Guangdong Automobile Industrial Group (GAIG), the Chinese auto and truck manufacturer, has expressed interest in exploring business opportunities in Pakistan.

Chairman of the group, Zhang Fangyou, met with President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Board of Investment Saleem Mandviwala in Guangzhou on Friday, who apprised him of the potential of the industry in the local market.

The Guangzhou group is engaged in research and development, manufacture and sale of passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, engines and auto parts. It is also involved in a range of automobile-related services, including rentals, after-sale services, import and export of automobile-related products, logistics services and auto insurance brokerage services.

Renewable energy

Another Chinese company, Chaguang Electronics, has planned to invest in renewable energy in Pakistan. President Chaguang Electronics Xu Shehui called on President Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) Zaka Ashraf in Islamabad to discuss the scope of alternative energy and light-emitting diode (LED) technology within the agriculture sector. He said that LED technology was being successfully utilised in China for lighting streets, parks and other public and private buildings while conserving energy. Shehui added that the technology would help Pakistan overcome the electricity shortfall by conserving energy and would aid rapid industrial and agricultural development. Agencies
