Presidential concerns: Impasse in Islamabad adding to financial insecurity
Mamnoon Hussain says generations will not forgive leaders for allowing anarchy.
PESHAWAR:
Referring to the situation in Islamabad, President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain said the incident is taking the country toward financial and political insecurity.
Hussain said this while addressing a K-P Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) award distribution ceremony at Governor House on Monday. Governor Mehtab Abbasi, KPCCI President Zahidullah Shinwari and a large number businessmen and industrialists were also present on the occasion.
If the present leadership fails to solve the impasse, then they will be blamed for generations for allowing havoc and anarchy to ruin the country, said Hussain.
He suggested referring to the Constitution, a document which has solutions for every situation; from the simple to the severe. “If we take our issues and differences out on the roads, we will be a global laughing stock.”
“Terrorists couldn’t defeat Pakistanis,” said the president, “and the nation stands with the Pakistan Army as it bravely fights terrorists.”
Hussain said, “We are confronted with a war of occupation over resources; Pakistan didn’t want to be part of this war but it also doesn’t want anyone forcibly occupying its assets.”
He said some elements are creating chaos in the country. The public could protect Pakistan from economic and political instability if it avoids such destabilizing factors.

Hussain asked foreign investors and traders to refrain from believing negative propaganda against Pakistan and should invest confidently in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The president hoped in coming years Pakistan will become the epicenter of global trade.
He said the government is considering providing an industrial package to traders and industrialists in K-P to help address some of their problems. He added the matter of providing industrial gas connections to K-P will be solved in next two or three months.
Later, Hussain distributed awards to businessmen and industrialists who performed well in terms of paying taxes, import, export and other business activities in the province.
North Waziristan IDPs
President Mamnoon Hussain called a meeting with the FATA Secretariat next week in Islamabad to examine of issues faced by the internally displaced persons (IDP) which were discussed in a meeting with a North Waziristan jirga and Fata parliamentarians at Governor House.
At the meeting, Hussain assured people displaced by the military operation in North Waziristan that all out efforts were being made for their early repatriation and vowed to speed up development work.
The completion of Operation Zarb-e-Azb would usher in an era of peace and stability in the region, said Hussain. He appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the displaced people, adding their efforts would ensure terrorism is rooted out from the tribal region.
The president reiterated the government will take all measures needed for the socio-economic uplift of the tribal areas and bring them to par with more developed parts of the country.
The president told them the government was committed to rebuilding the damaged infrastructure and it was crucial to give patriotic tribesmen equal opportunities to excel in life.
Hussain said the need of the hour was to provide education and health facilities to hone the talent and natural resources of Fata to benefit locals in particular. The president directed relevant officials to up the pace of development work and ensure timely completion.
