Commissioner reviews security protocol

KARACHI:
Registering his concern about the frequency of bank robberies in the metropolis, Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui reviewed arrangements for the security of banks, their staff and their clients in a meeting on Sunday. After representatives of different banks operational in the city sought improved security to help avert such incidents, he asked institutional heads of commercial banks to ensure full compliance to security protocols and to upgrade security arrangements for their banks. The meeting discussed gaps in existing security protocols and agreed upon the need for issuing arms licences to guards from private security agencies. A coordination committee, comprising the Karachi additional commissioner, the Banking Council secretary and representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan was also constituted to develop a fool-proof security plan for the banks by September 24.
