Facilitating the public: City residents to benefit from police’s new attestation service

Copies of driving licences, vehicle registration papers will soon be attested at Police Assistance Lines.

PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar police have introduced the service of attesting photocopies of driving licences and vehicle registration documents at Police Assistance Lines (PAL) in order to facilitate the public, according to a handout issued on Tuesday.

The new service will begin from September 22 and will soon be available at all police assistance lines across the province.

According to the handout, it was noticed that residents were reluctant to carry original documents with them everywhere because they could be misplaced or stolen. This caused inconvenience when they were stopped at checkpoints.

It was decided that the police department would attest copies of driving licences and vehicle registration papers, which drivers can easily carry with themselves. Once the service is introduced, the police department will attest the copies after verifying them from the excise department and traffic police.

Records of all attested documents will be kept at the relevant PAL. The attested details will be valid across the province.

Instructions have been given to field teams and they have been directed to verify attested documents shown to them by contacting the relevant PAL via their wireless devices.

It is expected that the newly introduced service will go a long way in facilitating residents of this province.

The provincial police department has been introducing various reforms over the past few months to make the force’s work transparent and its service people-friendly. As part of the reforms, the IGP has suspended several officials accused of corruption, while dispute resolution councils have also been formed to facilitate citizens in the prompt resolution of trivial disputes.
