Balochistan chief minister vows no compromise on Reko Diq project
He said defending Baloch resources and land was the key agenda of the NP
QUETTA:
Just months after he had to save face by taking former Chief Justice of Pakistan's son off the Balochistan board of investment, Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said on Monday that they will not make any compromise on the Reko Diq gold and copper project.
“My government will [not] compromise regarding the Reko Diq gold and copper project. I will do my best to protect the interest of our people,” he said while addressing a mammoth public gathering in the Kadkocha area of Mastung district on Monday.
He noted that the future of crisis-hit province was intricately linked to the multi-billion dollar project.
The chief minister said defending Baloch resources and land was the key agenda of the ruling party, and no compromise would be made in this connection.
The chief minister said that the National Party (NP) takes on from the Kalat State National Party (KSNP) and the National Awami Party (NAP).
“Mastung’s land is very fertile as far as the Baloch national struggle is concerned. Our ancestors in Kalat State were baton-charged for the sake of national struggle and were even deported from Kalat,” he added.
Stressing upon organising and consolidating the NP, he said, “We need to expedite our struggle because some frustrated elements were jealous of NP's performance. These elements are once again collecting against the NP, because they are restless and worried that power has been taken from them by the masses which has harmed their personal interests.”
Baloch further said Gwadar district had been allotted to members of land-mafia by corrupt representatives in the past.
“However, we have vowed that we would protect our coast and land, therefore illegal allotments made over thousands of acres in Pasni have been cancelled,” adding, “The people of Pasni would soon be given land rights in the area,” he said.
The situation in the province has improved over the past year and a half, and no one could accuse representatives of NP for involvement in protecting criminals.
Referring to missing persons, he said the government was striving hard to trace them and resolve the issue.
Regarding laying of transmission lines from Dadu-Khuzdar and DG Khan-Loralai, Baloch said Rs8 billion had been set aside for laying transmission lines in interior Balochistan which would help ease the power crisis.
