RAWALPINDI:
Punjab government marked an anti-dengue awareness day on Sunday. Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi arranged walks and seminar on Sunday as part of the dengue control awareness campaign.

Addressing the seminar, Managing Director Wasa Raja Shoukat Mehmood informed that the agency has made all necessary efforts to reduce the threat of dengue on directions given by Wasa.

“Special inspection teams have been constituted by Wasa which are active in different parts of the city to monitor water leakages and stagnant water and related things,” he said. The teams are also responsible to drain water through jetting and de-watering pumps after rains, he added.

Banners have been installed to create awareness among the masses about dengue. The inspection teams have been directed to perform their duties on daily basis, Mehmood said.

Coordinator Health Department Dr Haidar Iqbal said it was a collective responsibility to fight the disease. He added that people and government should join hands to prevent the threat. He appealed to the participants to ensure cleanliness in their homes.

Meanwhile, City Traffic Police Rawalpindi also observed an anti-dengue day on Sunday to create public awareness of the disease. The CTP distributed pamphlets containing instructions for prevention of dengue. Awareness banners have also been displayed at important inter sections of the town.

Special walks to spread awareness about dengue were also held in Murree and Gujar Khan tehsils.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Shoaib Khurram Janbaz said there is a threat of dengue spread in September and October.
