Crisis management: Warring families resolve dispute

BANNU:

A long-standing dispute among families in Bannu district was resolved on Saturday after a year of heightened tensions.

For over a year, four families locked horns over gunfire at the wedding ceremony of a cop’s brother in April 2013.  SHO Zeenatullah Khan and five other people died in the incident.

Two of the deceased were nephews of the former PHC CJ Dost Muhammad Khan. After the incident, ties between the families turned sour and posed a threat to the law and order in the district. Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani made a final attempt to resolve the dispute. A jirga was convened on Saturday and successfully brokered a truce among the four families.
