Northern Knights tame undisciplined Lions

Lahore outfit all out on 98 while chasing a 171-run target

KARACHI:
Lahore Lions succumbed to a humiliating 72-run defeat against the Northern Knights in their second qualifier of the Champions League T20 at Raipur, less than 24 hours past their win over Mumbai Indians.

Trent Boult and Tim Southee displayed utmost skills with the new ball swinging both ways to trouble the Lahore batsmen.

All Lahore batsmen went to the dug-out with a single digit on their scorecard but Saad Nasim was able to show some resistance against the bowlers with his 58 off 40 deliveries.

But well before that, Lahore had already set up their losing fate. Catches were dropped, death bowling was not up to the mark and it seemed like the team had exhausted itself out in the previous match against Mumbai.

Knights were sent to bat first by Lahore Skipper Muhammad Hafeez but the plan didn’t work out well.

Wickets kept falling for the Knights but they were up to the task of scoring runs.

Captain Daniel Flynn and Bradley-John Watling both scored fifties to boost their team’s scoring. Combined, they hit 12 fours and three sixes.

Aizaz Cheema bagged three wickets spilling away 35 runs.

Lahore were 19-5 in just the sixth over. Exceptional seam bowling from both Southee and Boult scrambled Lahore plans to nothing.

Nasim was able to able to hit four boundaries and one maximum for his half-century. However, he couldn’t find a partner on the other side to support the cause.

Lahore Lions will now play their third qualifier against Southern Express on Tuesday at 1530PST.
