Fresh batch: ‘Govt would never use police to further political ends’

LAHORE:

Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique said on Saturday that civil servants should not confuse discipline with following illegal orders.

He was speaking to newly appointed railway police sub-inspectors. Rafique said the appointments had been made on merit. He said the nation and the department expected them to discharge their duties impartially.

Rafique said the police were custodians of law and the government would never use it to further political ends. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the government were distinct entities. Rafique said appointments to police and the railways were being made transparently and were not marred by bribes, unfair influence and nepotism.

He said not a single sub-inspector from the newly appointed officials hailed from his constituency. Rafique praised Railways Inspector General (IGP) Munir Chishti as an honest, incorruptible and dedicated officer.

He said railway police was ensuring the security of installations and passengers. Rafique said it had also recovered railway land worth billions of rupees from land grabbers.  IGP Munir Chishti and Deputy Inspector General Shariq Jamal were also present on the occasion.
