Employees of the municipal corporation have accepted the government’s decision to hand over the reins of the city’s municipal services to WSSP, but not without a set of conditions.
United Municipal Workers Union (UMWU)’s general secretary Muhammad Fazal told The Express Tribune on Friday they will support the private firm’s decision to take over. However, the union’s general secretary said 21 conditions have been stated to Chief Municipal Officer Javed Amjad and other municipal officers.
The UMWU has demanded municipal employees will work on deputation for the private firm. They want that their status as employees of the municipal corporation be resumed three months before retirement from WSSP so they can benefit from pensions.
Moreover, the workers have also demanded a 20% increase in their salary.
The move to outsource to a private company has received criticism from opposition parties which claim local governance could have addressed management problems.
