Intermediate examinations: Less than half pass in commerce group
Pre-medical students outshine pre-engineering group in Hyderabad.
HYDERABAD/KARACHI:
After a year’s hiatus, the Institute of Business Education (IBE) stole the limelight from public and private colleges yet again as two of its students clinched the first two positions in the commerce group results announced by the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, (BIEK) on Thursday.
In 2012, students from the private business school that had started off in 2003 as an initiative of the Tabani’s School of Accountancy, had swept the top three positions. The school had, however, failed to repeat the feat in the subsequent years.
This year, IBE’s Ashish Kumar secured first position by scoring 930 marks out of 1,100, followed by Syeda Malaika Akbar who scored 928 marks. The third position was secured by Kiran Jabeen of the Khursheed Government Girls’ College as she scored 921 marks. Her feat brought a public-sector commerce college’s name in the hall of fame after a gap of three years.
At the ceremony organised to honour the position-holders, BIEK chairperson Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai said that the private and regular candidates who pursue commerce education at the intermediate level exceed the number of combined candidates in the pre-medical and pre-engineering groups.
“We have been observing this trend for the last five years, which reflects the students’ growing interest in commerce and business-related studies and professions,” said Prof Ahmed Zai. “But the public colleges, despite this massive inflow of students, seem to be failing in terms of academics and individual attention.”
Result statistics
