UN General Assembly: No Nawaz-Modi meeting scheduled
PM’s Adviser Sartaj Aziz says Pakistan is committed to peace with India

Pakistan remains committed to the peace process with India despite the recent cancellation of foreign secretary level talks, Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Wednesday.
Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Aziz, however, said there was no meeting scheduled between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the sidelines of coming UN General Assembly session in New York.
Presided over by Senator Haji Muhmmad Adeel, the panel was also briefed about the recent situation along the Line of Control (LoC), an official release said.
Muhammad Nafees Zakriya from the foreign ministry briefed the committee about Pakistan’s relations with India in the wake of the new Indian government.
Provisions of Indus water treaty with India were also discussed due to the prevailing conditions. Foreign ministry officials clearly stated that there was no back-channel diplomacy with India at this time.
The committee was also briefed about the Pak-Afghan relations. Aziz said both Pakistan and Afghanistan needed to agree that neither will let its territories be used against the other.
On the matter of taking up official and diplomatic passports issue with UAE, the adviser said that he had a meeting on the said issue and the problem will be resolved soon. He also said that a draft agreement is in process regarding shifting of prisoners in Pakistani and Saudi Arabian jails.
