Flood damages: Reply sought on relief from govt

Shaheen said that the government had not implemented the recommendations of a report

LAHORE:
Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday sought reply from the government about its flood relief measures. Helm Foundation, a local NGO, had filed the petition. Its counsel, Safdar Shaheen, told the court that the government had not taken appropriate measures to help the people displaced by the calamity. He said that the floods had caused massive damages in the province and the displaced people were not being provided proper facilities. Shaheen said that the government had not implemented the recommendations of a report compiled by a judicial commission, led by an LHC judge, in 2010. He requested the court to order the government to ensure the rehabilitation of displaced people. Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh sought replies within two weeks from the government and the flood relief commissioner.
