Take steps: KCCI laments ‘theft’ of imported goods
Incidents allegedly occur during the clearance procedure.
KARACHI:
Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Acting President Muffasar Atta Malik has expressed his concern over increasing incidents related to theft of imported goods.
These incidents allegedly take place during the examination and clearance procedure from all ports of Karachi that ultimately cause severe losses to importers, added Malik in a statement.
Malik urged the Ports and Shipping Ministry and respective chairmen to take notice and order security forces to take steps to protect imported consignments.
The official pointed out that KCCI has received numerous complaints from importers who sought the chamber’s help in the matter.
Importers have complained that the problem has existed for a while but the situation has worsened as 10 to 12 cartons are reportedly stolen from each container.
“Representatives of various trade associations including Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA) and Pakistan Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (PASPIDA) have forwarded similar complaints and sought KCCI’s help,” he added.
Malik noted that despite the hostile business environment, entrepreneurs are striving hard each day.
“Incidents of thefts must be stopped in order to restore the confidence of businessmen,” he added.
