Table tennis squad departs for India
Junior players to feature in Asian Championships from Sept 12.
KARACHI:
A four-member junior table tennis squad left for Mumbai on Wednesday evening to participate in the Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships that will be held from September 12 to 16.
Pakistan’s top-ranked junior players Muhammad Rameez, Salman Virk and Abdul Haseeb Ahmed will join around 200 players from 16 countries.
“Rameez and Salman’s participation at the championship was confirmed right after the South Asian championship,” team coach Irfanullah Khan told The Express Tribune. “Haseeb was selected after winning a match with Aahil Shah.”
Pakistan qualified for the event after they played the junior boys’ team event final against India at the South Asian Cadet and Junior Table Tennis championships held from August 27 to 29 in Islamabad.
“Pakistan and India are the southern region nations that qualified,” added Irfanullah.
