New horizons: UoP to offer three new graduate programmes this academic year

Admissions for Criminology, Tourism and Hotel Management departments to be opened soon.

PESHAWAR:
The newly-established departments of Criminology, Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Peshawar (UoP) are all set to offer graduate programmes from this month onwards.

This was decided during a meeting of the UoP’s academic council held on Tuesday, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan. The meeting was attended by the deans of various faculties, chairpersons of departments and other members of the council.

The academic council approved the statuses of the three departments and admissions will start this month.

Addressing the meeting, Jan said bringing about constant changes that cater to the industry’s demands are necessary and the faculty must live up to the expectations of the market and improve curricula over time.

He added the practical application of knowledge should be prioritised while teaching methods should be made easy for students to understand especially at the undergraduate and graduate level.


Jan termed the start of graduate programmes in Criminology, Tourism and Hotel Management a milestone, saying the university will produce top professionals of the respective fields.

The council decided that admissions for the new programmes will be announced immediately after the UoP BA, BSc results are announced which are expected on September 15.

The council also approved the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies which will begin offering post-graduate diploma courses from the coming month.
