Five boys arrested for harassing schoolgirls
The boys were booked under Women Protection Act 2009.
ISLAMABAD:
Rescue 15 police on Thursday arrested five boys from Lake View Park for harassing school girls. The boys were booked under Women Protection Act 2009.
Girls of grade 9 and 10 of Kainat School Rawalpindi had gathered at Lake View Park for a recreation trip when a group of over 15 youngsters — mostly school boys — started to harass them. The boys shouted pranks and hooted at the girls and started performing stunts on their cars and motorbikes. When the school principal — who was accompanying the girls — tried to drive away the youngsters, they began thrashing him and some of the school boys accompanying the school trip.
The infuriated principal and some of the girls called Rescue 15 for help. When the police arrived at the scene, most of the boys managed to flee, however, police managed to arrest five boys: Arslan Ahmed, Nauman, Waqar Hassan, Muhammad Ali and Usama Haider. For the first time since its inception, the police decided to book the boys under Women Protection Act 2009. “Under the act, a case can be registered on allegations of merely staring at a woman, which comes under harassment,” said a police official.
The police also impounded a Suzuki car. Police said that some of the boys of the group allegedly belonged to Sir Sayed College Rawalpindi. No official from the school confirmed these claims, said police.
