Overboard: One fisherman found, four still missing

13 fishermen were rescued from near Do Darya after their boat capsized on Monday.

KARACHI: Of the five fishermen who went missing after their fishing boat capsized near Do Darya on Monday, one has been recovered while four have yet to be retrieved.

Four boats searched for the bodies in the area and on the nearby islands, with an official of the Maritime Security Agency claiming that the rescue operation had started early in the morning and continued till sunset. However, they remained unable to find any bodies. Fishermen from the area believe that the sea will push the bodies to the surface today (Wednesday).

The boat, which had 18 fishermen from Mikpur Sakro taluka of the Thatta district, had left home for fishing on August 29 and was on its way to Karachi with a large haul of fish and prawns. It got stuck in high tides and was toppled over by the rough waves. Thirteen of the fishermen were rescued by locals and were taken to a private hospital in Ibrahim Haidery for treatment.

Announcements were made on loudspeakers of the mosques in Ibrahim Haidery, requesting the area's resident to inform the authorities if they found any bodies while fishing. The families of the missing fishermen also reached Ibrahim Haidery on Tuesday.
