Mohsin turns down PCB offer

Former coach believes it’s not the ‘right time’ for a job with the board .

KARACHI:

Former chief selector and coach Mohsin Khan turned down an offer to work in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by Shaharyar Khan during the chairman’s visit to Karachi.

The PCB chief’s meeting with Mohsin and Rashid Latif, two of the most vocal opponents of the board’s policies, was met with raised eyebrows amid speculations that job offers might be on the cards.

An official close to the matter told The Express Tribune that Mohsin was asked to work in the board, but the former Test player decided against it.

When Mohsin was contacted about the issue, he confirmed the news.

“I had a very cordial meeting with Shaharyar, who praised my work as chief selector and coach of Pakistan,” Mohsin told The Express Tribune.

“I respect his gesture of calling on former players and discussing matters regarding Pakistan cricket. He wanted me to work with the PCB, but I told him that I will serve the nation at the right time and with the right people.”

Mohsin has frequently declared the team management ‘tainted’ ever since the induction of Waqar Younis as head coach and Mushtaq Ahmed as spin-bowling consultant.

“Money and designations are not important to me. The most important things for me are my principles, and I won’t sacrifice on those. There are people in the team management who have a tainted past, so I don’t want be a part of an organisation which includes such individuals.”

Shaharyar also met Moin Khan to determine the reason behind Pakistan’s poor performance in Sri Lanka and discuss plans for the upcoming series against Australia and New Zealand leading up to the 2015 World Cup.

Additionally, he met junior chief selector Basit Ali and discarded international player Faisal Iqbal, besides paying legendary batsman Hanif Muhammad a visit at his residence.
