President says political differences should be resolved in Parliament

Mamnoon Hussain asks religious scholars to play role in curbing extremism

KARACHI:
President Mamnoon Hussain said on Monday political differences and issues should be resolved in Parliament and not on the streets.

Hoping that the current political situation would normalise soon, Hussain said it was encouraging that all political parties were holding dialogues to resolve the issues.

“Those who have gone outside the ambit of the Constitution and democracy will return back.”

Addressing the 6th Rice Export Trophy Awards in Karachi, the president said no country can develop without political stability and politics should aim at restoring confidence of people and not at creating chaos.

The president added the government realises that the common man is facing hardships in the form of price-hikes, unemployment and unrest, and that steps were being taken to solve these issues.

He also said the present government had inherited a number of problems and was trying its best to overcome the challenges.

Further, he urged all segments of society to pay taxes.

Hussain said the federal government was supporting the Sindh government in improving the law and order in Karachi.

While appreciating that Pakistan exports rice to 103 countries, the president said there is potential to explore more markets and increase the share further.

Talking about the economic situation, the president said the government is working on establishing an economic corridor that that will lead the country on the path of development and prosperity.

“The government is carrying several power generation projects in collaboration with China. After the completion of these projects, 22,000 megawatts of electricity will be produced,” he added.
