Reaching out: Bilawal urges nation to help IDPs
People of North Waziristan left their homes for a national cause.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged the nation to help the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
He directed the party workers to donate generously through PPP IDP committees and called upon the nation to help the displaced persons through the channel of their liking.
He said Zarb-e-Azb is a battle for the existence of Pakistan. “I am surprised to see that while clouds of hatred are engulfing the country, the nation stands divided…how can we forget our land,” he said in a message demanding attention towards the plight of the displaced people.
The PPP chairman said that the country and democracy were acquired at a great cost. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, hundreds and thousands of men, women and children, civilians and the valiant men in uniform sacrificed their lives for this country and democracy.
“We must reach out to those who have been left homeless due to this war (against militants),” he said reminding that the Zarb-e-Azb operation was not only about North Waziristan, but all of Pakistan.
“We had to fight such a war in 2009,” he said. It is the time to revive the spirit of 2009, when the whole nation backed the operation against militants in Swat. People opened their doors for the displaced persons of Swat and donated wholeheartedly for their wellbeing.
Bilawal reminded that the then government took full political responsibility of the operation and stood by its armed forces that cleared Swat and surrounding areas of militants. The IDPs were issued Smart Cards to assist them in an honourable way till they were rehabilitated in their homes.
Insisting on the need of love and harmony, he urged the nation to end hatred as it would end everyone. “Please help the IDPs who have left their homes for a national cause,” the PPP chairman said.
