Targeted attacks: Policeman and grocer killed

Police said that the deceased was on duty with another policeman when unidentified armed men opened fire.

A policeman and a grocer were shot dead in the city on Sunday.



The policeman, 35-year-old Hatim Morio, was gunned down in Khajoor Bazaar within the limits of the Kharadar police station.


The police said that the deceased was on duty with another policeman when unidentified armed men opened fire at them in Lea Market. A shop keeper identified as Iqbal was also injured in the attack. The policeman and Iqbal were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi.


SHO Zafar Iqbal said that the deceased worked with the Sindh Reserve Police and was from Swat. He said that the policemen were deployed at Khajoor Bazaar following the frequent incidents of extortion in the area.


In an unrelated incident a grocery shop owner identified as 35-year-old Javed Sohail was killed within the limits of Ghaus Colony, Orangi Town within the limits of the Pakistan Bazaar police station. The police said that deceased used to run a grocery shop within the premises of his house.


He was at the shop as per routine when two men on a motorcycle showed up and opened fire at him. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
