Deadly encounter: Robber killed, four escape arrest

Criminals travelling in stolen car fired shots on police near Singhwala.

FAISALABAD:

A robbery suspect was shot dead but four others managed to escape in an encounter with police in Khurarianwala on Friday night.

City Police Officer (CPO) Dr Sohail Habib Tajik told The Express Tribune on Saturday that a police contingent, headed by Madina Town SHO Farrukh Waheed, had set up a picket at Khurarianwala Road near Singhwala. “The police party signalled a car (FEF-9908) to stop. The passengers instead fired shots at the police party and fled towards Khurarianwala. The police party chased the suspects and asked them to surrender.

When they continued firing shots, the policemen also retaliated,” he said.

Tajik said that the criminals then left the car on the road and escaped into the fields. “When the police party searched the car, they found a body inside.

He had died after being hit by bullets fired by the police,” he said. Tajik said the deceased was later identified as Abdul Majid, 40, a resident of Rasheedabad, Jhang Road Faisalabad. Police sent the body to a hospital for post mortem examination.

During the preliminary investigation, Tajik said that police had come to know that the robbers had snatched the car (LEB-3819) from Bhikki in Sheikhupura the same night. “Later, the criminals fixed a fake number plate (FEF-9908) on the car and drove it to Faisalabad, where they ran into the police patrol,” Tajik said.

He said police teams had been constituted to arrest the remaining suspects.
