MQM chief and JUI-F leaders agree sit-ins should be postponed

Altaf Hussain puts off decision of all MQM members' resignations from Parliament on Maulana Fazlur Rehman's request

LONDON:
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday agreed that sit-ins held in Islamabad by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) should be postponed in the wake of heavy rains and consequent flooding, according to an MQM press release.

The two politicians discussed the current political crisis in Pakistan over the phone and shed light on the flood situation in Punjab and Kashmir.

Hussain and Rehman expressed grief and sorrow over the deaths caused by the heavy downpours. They discussed that "all political parties should make united efforts for helping the people affected by the natural disasters and the IDPs," the statement read.

They also discussed Hussain’s decision which requested the resignations of MQM's party members from the Parliament.

Rehman asked Hussain to withdraw his decision to resign from the Parliament, adding that MQM parliamentarians should attend the joint session of Parliament for the promotion of democracy.

JUI-F leader added that MQM is a leading political party and plays an important role in Pakistan’s politics.

The MQM chief put off the decision of the resignations and assured Rehman that MQM members will attend the joint session of the Parliament.
