KARACHI:

Society needs to understand the relevance of reproductive health to the general wellbeing and emotional stability of the youth, said speakers at a workshop organised by Madadgaar National Helpline and Aahung.

Addressing the concluding session of the four-day training workshop on “Reproductive Health and Rights of Young People”, doctors, psychologists and counsellors also sought to dispel myths and misconceptions related to reproductive health.

They also said that early marriages must be discouraged as they are the major cause of maternal and child mortality, abortion and pregnancy-related complications, as well as a root cause of mental stress and depression.

The workshop, which aimed to prepare trainers to sensitise youth about their health and rights, was attended by officials of the provincial social welfare department and members of NGOs such as Rehnuma - FPAP, Visionary Foundation and Parwaz Male Health Society.
