FAISALABAD:

Nearly two dozen villagers of Chak 276-JB Dandewal on Friday staged a protest demonstration in front of the district government secretariat to protest killing of two people in Chak 67-JB Sadhar.

Carrying bodies of the deceased, the protestors said police were in cahoots with the killers and not registering a case against the nominated suspects.

The protestors also carried posters and chanted slogans against police.

Jamal Akhtar, a protestor, said Abdus Sattar,55, and his nephew Ghulam Rasool 40, were shot dead by Dastagir and Imran when they were returning home after attending a hearing of a case at the district courts.

He said two relatives of the deceased were also injured and they were taken rushed to a hospital for treatment.

He said a complaint had been filed against the suspects but no arrests had been made so far. He said the police were not registering a case because they had been bribed by the accused. He said the protestors would continue to demonstrate until a case was registered. On receipt of information, Lyallpur Town superintendent reached the scene with a heavy police contingent and negotiated with protestors. He assured them that those found guilty of killing the two men would be arrested.

On this assurance, the demonstrators called off protest and dispersed peacefully.
