Constitution: Plea against Imran Khan moved in SC

Petition challenging eligibility of Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rasheed as members of parliament filed

LAHORE:

A petition challenging the eligibility of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, his party colleague Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed as members of parliament was filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry on Wednesday.

The petition, moved by the Watan Party through its leader Barrister Zafarullah Khan, argued that the three leaders had deviated from the Constitution and violated the oath they took before becoming members of the National Assembly. It claimed the leaders, through their actions, had refused to obey the Constitution.

The Watan Party urged the court to permanently disqualify the respondents as members of parliament.

The petition also moved the court against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri, accusing him and his supporters, along with PTI activists, of sedition. It stated that workers of PAT and PTI had broken into the headquarters of PTV, ransacking the place and harassing employees of the state run TV channel.
