Volleyball team confident of good show
Pakistan grouped with Japan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait at Asian Games.
KARACHI:
The Pakistan volleyball team is assured about its chances in the forthcoming 17th Asian Games, which will commence from September 19 at Incheon, South Korea.
According to Pakistan Volleyball Federation Secretary Muhammad Shahid Kamal, the national team has been placed in Group B along with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and defending champions Japan.
“The boys are well trained and will hopefully give their best,” Kamal told The Express Tribune. “Our aim will be to defeat Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in order to reach the quarter-finals.”
A 21-member contingent is being trained in the ongoing camp at the Pakistan Sports Board Coaching Centre in Peshawar since August 15. The camp will continue until the squad departs for Korea on September 15.
“The present lot of probables defeated Australia and Japan to reach the quarter-finals at the Asian Junior Volleyball Championship in Tehran in 2008,” said Kamal.
