Vehicles: Standardised licence plates soon, says Rehman
The Excise and Taxation Department will provide a new number plate.

The government is planning to introduce uniform licence plates to vehicle owners throughout the province, Minister for Excise and Taxation Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said on Tuesday.
He said vehicle owners will have to file an application at excise and taxation offices in their cities, the number plates will be issued to them from Lahore. He said data on stolen vehicles will be disseminated among law enforcement agencies and suspicious vehicles will be stopped at check-points. He said irremovable number plates would be issued. He said if a vehicle’s bumper gets damaged or breaks in an accident, it will not be possible to use the same number plate on a new bumper. The Excise and Taxation Department will provide a new number plate. He said the government was planning to collect taxes over the internet. He said people will be able to pay their taxes at Ufone franchises, Bank of Punjab branches or via credit card.
