Hackers, who identify themselves with the hacktivist group Anonymous, claimed to have acted against 31 websites of the government in response to the violence against protesters.
“We are cataloging the atrocities being committed in Pakistan. We will begin at once assisting the peaceful protesters in Pakistan with every tool and tactic at our disposal. And we will initiate the process of removing every vestige of the Pakistan government from the Internet and shutting down their communications network,” the group claimed in its press release.
Of the sites they claimed to have attacked, over 10 were inaccessible at the time of writing.
Among the websites taken down by the hackers include the federal government's website (Pakistan.gov.pk) and that of the President (PresidentofPakistan.gov.pk), the Pakistan electronic media regulatory authority (pemra.gov.pk), ministry of petroleum and natural resources (mnpr.gov.pk), ministry of textile (textile.gov.pk), the ministry of climate change (mocc.gov.pk) and the Punjab government website (punjab.gov.pk).
However, some other websites of the government which the hackers claimed to have attacked included the website of prime minister's office (pmo.gov.pk), the ministry of finance (finance.gov.pk), the press information department (pid.gov.pk), Federal Investigation Agency (fia.gov.pk).
Website of the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, was also inaccessible, though unlike the other websites, one received a message of maintenance when trying to access the site. The group also claimed to attack the business website of Sharif Group (sharifgroup.com.pk), the company owned by Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.
Other government websites taken down include Pakistan Meteorological Department (pmd.gov.pk), National Institute of Electronics (nie.gov.pk), the e-government service repository of forms (forms.gov.pk) and the Pakistan Institute of Manpower (pmi.gov.pk).
Websites of Cabinet (cabinet.gov.pk), Ministry of Defence (mod.gov.pk), Ministry of Law (molaw.gov.pk), Establishment Division (establishment.gov.pk) were also inaccessible, but it could not be confirmed if hackers were responsible for it.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, it is to late to Expect Us,” the group said in its message.
Other sites which the hacktivist group targeted were that of the Army and the Airforce. The hackers claimed to have taken down the ISPR's website (ispr.gov.pk), the Army (joinpakarmy.gov.pk) and the Airforce's (joinpaf.gov.pk) recruitment websites.
Separately, hacker Muhammad Bilal and the Pakistan Cyber Experts team hacked into four sub-domains of the Punjab government website and left their message there by altering the configuration files. “If you cannot secure your websites, then why do you create them?” read the message.

Imran khan breaks the law. Hackers break the law. Are both not therefore criminals??
@malik: SQL injection is one technique to achieve desired results, there are far more simple to complicated methods to hack a website. Moreover, any decent website has mechanism to deal with SQL injection, it doesn't always work.
@just_someone:
You don't need amazing talent to hack websites. All you need is to know how to do SQL injection. Google it up.
If these guys had amazing talent, they would have been building amazing stuff, won't they ?
NR3C must find and arrest them. This attacking the State of Pakistan, not PMLN
@Ch. Allah Daad: Give it up dude, the time for you chaudhries and wadeiras is over. We the young generation won't stick to this nonsense anymore.
@Ch. Allah Daad: The monarchs are sitting in palaces forcing people to the brink, people can't afford to feed their kids or pay for their medical bills but Sharif's and their types live like kings in my country. So tell me who are the anarchists? Do you really think we should continue to go on forever where there is no respect or justice for masses, there is no hope for the betterment of masses ... these rich monarchs will not hand over this country in a plate unfortunately, they weren't expecting this from the masses so they are resisting so we need to support the ones struggling for the masses ... there'll be a PM, might as well be the one who is capable of leading this country out of mess than one whose sole goal is to amass wealth and who thinks he's never going to be lowered into a grave.
@farhan: For as long as it takes. Didn't you witness the public service of Sharif's and Zardari's in the past, they were there for years.
Shamefull anti-pakistan activities by pro pti brainless folks. My family and i, regret voting for pti in ( NA-250 & PS-112) karachi. Imran khan, how low will you go in order to becoming prime minister?
Hackers, Anarchists and Terrorists have one aim and that is destruction of Pakistan. Its pity that we cannot fight all three.
And the Sharif brothers and their children and their relatives thought they were invincible LOL.
So Anonymous enter the fray in response to the massacre committed in Islamabad. It seems that the true face of our DEMOCRACY is not hidden from the world now.
This group is filled with amazingly talented people... They have taken down American Govt websites, Pak is not a problem for them.
