The new Khan gets casual about bollywood
Good looks and heart-warming performances have already made Khan very popular in India.
Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, who will soon be seen is his debut Hindi film Khoobsurat, a remake of a film of the same name, reveals that his entry in Bollywood wasn’t pre-planned and that he is confident about the film’s success, now that the release is nearing its date. He was, however, nervous facing the new world of cinema in India.
“I did not have preconceived notions about Bollywood. [But] There was nervousness as I was to enter and be part of a different world of entertainment, which I have not experienced,” said Fawad, in an interview, reported the Hindustan Times.
“It was not pre planned... to come to Bollywood and do a film. As an artiste, one should go wherever the work takes you. It’s a great opportunity for actors to showcase their talent,” added the 32-year-old star.
The actor is highly-celebrated in Pakistan after giving hits like Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai among others on television. He also garnered a lot of appreciation and a huge fan following in India when Indian channel Zindagi aired his drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai.
Making his film debut in 2007 with Khuda Kay Liye, the highest-grossing Pakistani film of its time, Fawad was a well-known band’s singer prior to his career in acting. He also appeared in the remake of Pakistani classic film Armaan (1966), which was aired on TV channels.
Even though Fawad is new to Bollywood, owing to his conventionally good looks and heart-warming performances in Pakistani shows and films, he is immensly popular in India. “I am grateful and thankful for all the love, warmth and appreciation that I am getting here,” he said.
The casting director of Khoobsurat was highly impressed with Fawad’s performances in films and television dramas in Pakistan and couldn’t think of a better person to take up the role of actor turned director Rakesh Roshan for the remake.
The female lead in this women-centric Disney film is Sonam Kapoor. Fawad goes on to say that he does not think that of his Bollywood debut as a risky proposition. “I don’t think it is risky. Actually, it is playing it safe. I have been part of women-centric stuff in Pakistan. I think it is not fair to divide them (films) as women/men-centric. Khoobsurat is a classic rom-com. As a newcomer, I felt it was better to attempt something safe,” Fawad said.
