A spokesman for the IG says child abduction cases were on the rise

There have been 150 reported cases of child abduction since January, 2014 in the Punjab.


According to a Police Department report obtained by The Express Tribune, 10 of the kidnapped children were murdered by their abductors despite receiving ransom. “Whereas, 100 of the abducted children were raped by their kidnappers,” the report said.


“Fifteen children were abducted during January, 25 in February, 22 in March, 25 in April, 20 in May, 29 in June and 22 children were kidnapped during July, 2014,” the report said.

Some of the abducted children were smuggled to other countries, the report said.

A spokesman for the IG said that child abduction cases were on the rise.

“The IG has taken note of the cases and has formed a special committee under the supervision of additional inspector general to take appropriate steps to deal with such crimes,” the spokesman said.
