Point of view: National Bank clarifies

Bank points out that salary ranges of contract employees were higher than the regular staff

Press Release August 29, 2014

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), while clarifying a report titled “At NBP, contractual staff calls the shots”, has said pay ranges are only an indicator of an employee’s remuneration and it does not mean that they are actually being compensated by the amount mentioned in the range. “Assuming that the maximum point of the range of each grade is the actual salary is incorrect,” it said. In a statement, the bank pointed out that salary ranges of contract employees were higher than the regular staff because provident fund and pension benefits were not associated with the remuneration of contract employees. “There is not much difference in the total remuneration of regular and contract employees.” It denied that the people responsible for lapses in Bangladesh had been favoured, saying the findings of a reputed external consultant were awaited for action by the bank.
