The city government on Monday announced that it would set up canine centres for training dogs in tracking. Boota Khan, a spokesman of the government, said the dogs would help the police track criminals. Khan said the government decided to set up the centres as a response to the increasing crime rate in the city. He said Rs5 million had been earmarked for this purpose. He said the centre would house various breeds and dog trainers would train them in tracking techniques. “These dogs would also be used to sniff out explosive devises and trainers would also teach dogs how to trace out drugs,” he said. He said the first canine centre would be set up at Chak 198-RB.
