Political rhetoric: PkMAP activists, workers organise rally to show support for government
Party leaders advise Imran Khan, Qadri not to take any steps to derail democracy.
KARACHI:
Leaders and activists of the Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Sindh chapter have vowed to take a stand for the protection of the Parliament and democracy in Pakistan.
The party leaders, activists and supporters took to the roads on Sunday in support of democracy and against the Azadi march and Inqilab march in Islamabad.
The PkMAP rally started from Empress Market and culminated at the Karachi Press Club. The participants, including members of the PkMAP's student wing Pakhtoon Student Organisation (PSO), armed with the party's flags, banners and placards, raised slogans in favour of democracy, Constitution and Parliament.
The party leaders, while addressing the participants from a van carrying loud speakers, stressed that only democracy could strengthen the federation and bring prosperity to the people.
"Once again, democracy, which we achieved after a lot of sacrifices, is under attack," said Abdul Qahar Wadan, a member of the National Assembly from Balochistan. He lauded all parties in the parliament who had taken a stand to protect democracy, except the two that were protesting. Wadan, in his speech which was a mix of Urdu and Pashto, highlighted the positive changes that had been brought to the country by democratic governments. "It is the beauty of democracy that you, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek, are holding rallies inside Islamabad," he said. "Every month, meetings are conducted on the Karachi law and order situation and the Army chief visits Karachi to inquire about the operation that has reduced crime by at least 40 per cent. This is because of the efforts of the democratic government." He said that Imran Khan should not try to fool the Pakistani nation with his musical shows in Islamabad.
PkMAP general secretary Nawab Ayaz Jogezai said that it was the first time that people were organising rallies in support of democracy in the country. "We could have organised a sit-in in Balochistan to end the previous government but we opted for the democratic way. We let the people decide and they decided what they wanted in the general elections," said Jogezai, advising the PTI and the PAT to let the people decide if the current government had failed to govern well.
The party's provincial president Nazir Jan also addressed the participants and stressed the importance of democracy for the survival of Pakistan. He said that the protests by PTI and PAT were directly affecting the economy of Pakistan that had only recently started improvement.
PSO provincial organiser Anwar Khan Mandokhail said that the party's founder, Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai, spent 33 years in jail for his efforts to strengthen democracy. "We will not allow any one derail it."
