Clean the throne: IGP demotes Liaquatabad SHO over toilets
The department has launched a campaign to improve the administration of police stations.
KARACHI:
In a first for the police department, officials have initiated a campaign to improve the administration and facilities being provided at police stations.
The provincial police chief, Inspector General Ghulam Haider Jamali recently demoted the SHO of Liaquatabad Police Station when he saw the deplorable condition of the toilets on a surprise visit to the station. The IGP paid surprise visits to various police stations on Saturday night. The stations included Zaman Town and Liaquatabad where Jamali checked the progress reports and also surveyed the administrative decorum.
When he reached Liaquatabad police station, he found the toilets unfit for use. He subsequently demoted the chief of the police station, SHO Sajjadul Hasnain. “The aim of the visits was to examine the administration of the police stations, their welfare and social issues,” IGP Sindh Jamali told The Express Tribune.
No suspect was found locked up at the police station during the IGP’s visit. “I was on snap checking when IGP Jamali visited,” SHO Hasnain told The Express Tribune. “We were all wearing uniforms and everything was ok. IGP Jamali was only displeased with the condition of the toilets.”
Minutes after the IGP’s visit, Karachi Additional IG Ghulam Qadir Thebo also visited the Taimuria police station. AIG Thebo gave a Rs5000 reward to Taimuria SHO Qalandar Buksh for ensuring cleanliness at the police station.
Around 40 minutes before the AIG’s visit, a message was circulated to the media and the relevant police stations about the visit. “It was merely a media campaign,” remarked a police officer.
