Two women murdered by relatives

DSP Saeed Anwar said that police had registered a case against Bhatti on Shafqat’s complaint.

BAHAWALPUR:

A man murdered his daughter, while another man killed his sister-in-law in Bahawalpur.

Muhammad Nawaz Bhatti, a resident of Laal Bhatti village in Khairpur Tamewali, shot and killed his daughter for talking to her husband over the phone. Faiza* had married a relative, Shafqat, three years ago without her father’s approval. Bhatti had recently brought her back with the help of the village elders. The family said she used to talk to her husband over the phone and her father used to reprimand her for that. On Saturday, he shot and killed her and fled.

DSP Saeed Anwar said that police had registered a case against Bhatti on Shafqat’s complaint. However, he said, the suspect had not been arrested yet.

Shafqat told reporters that Bhatti was threatening to kill him for filing the complaint. “The police should arrest Bhatti as soon as possible. As long as he is free, my life will remain threatened,” he said.

Elsewhere, Amjad strangled his sister-in-law Mahnoor* allegedly for resisting his advances in Chak 5-BC Kacholiyan. Amjad had then divorced Mahnoor’s sister. Police said he had wanted to form illicit relations with Mahnoor. On Friday night, he strangled her while she was asleep.

Abbasnagar police have registered the case against Amjad on the complaint of Mahnoor’s brother, Faiz Bakhsh.
