MURREE:

A week after the incident was first reported, the Murree police have failed to arrest the two men accused of raping a 16-year old girl.

Mahra* was allegedly raped by two men on August 16 when she was going to a market.

The police registered the FIR on August 21 on the complaint of Inam*, the victim’s father. Inam told the police that Sajid* and Zafar* allegedly raped his daughter while she was going to a local market in Osia, 20 kilometres from Murree city. A police source said that the police have made no effort to arrest the suspects. When contacted, investigation officer (IO) Muhammad Akram Khan said he was busy with work on an unrelated case in Adiala Jail. Khan said that he will arrest the suspects once he returns to Murree.

He said that an FIR has been registered and he will record the victim’s statement before arresting the suspects.

He said that the medico-legal report confirmed she had been raped, while adding that the report has been sent to Lahore for authentication.
