Rs6 billion approved for Canal Expressway

Mengal said the areas around the expressway would benefit economically

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) meeting has approved construction of Canal Expressway at a cost of Rs6 billion, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal said on Friday.


He told the media work on the project would start soon.


The DCO said the district government had given a presentation on the project to the PDWP. “Canal Expressway will help improve the economy.”

He said the 24-kilometre dual carriageway would be signal-free. It would be built from Sahianwala Interchange on the motorway to Gatwala Chowk. He said two flyovers would be constructed, one each at a railway crossing and Khurrianwala-Jhumra Road. An underpass will be built at Gatwala Chowk. “It will be a signal-free highway from Sahianwala Interchange to Samundri Road. Another underpass will be constructed at Jhal Khanuana Chowk.”

Mengal said the areas around the expressway would benefit economically since the highway would pass through near M-III Industrial Estate. He said a modern airport and some industrial and housing projects had also been proposed along the expressway.
